Actor Jerry Lambert characterizes Kevin Butler, a fictional character that was created by Sony Computer Entertainment as a part of their It Only Does Everything promotional campaign for the relabeled “Slim” models of PlayStation 3. Butler leads as the Vice President of several fictitious departments in the PS division of Sony, reacting to the “Dear PlayStation” skepticism. Because of the positive recognition of the advertisements, Sony will expand them during the whole of 2010. Butler made his live appearance at Sony’s E3 press conference on June 15, 2010.

He first appeared in a 2009 advertisement for MLB 09: The Show known as “Dustin vs. PlayStation” where he was discussing the in-game powers of Kevin Butler has since then appeared in numerous additionaladvertisements with much to come this year.

In one of Butler first advertisements, in reaction to a rumor merchant questioning a then affirmed price dropping for the PS 3, saying that people cannot believe everything they read online because otherwise he been a Nigerian millionaire by today.

Gaming website Kotaku has commented on the first twoadvertisements that were released, “What we didn’t mention is how funny they are.” Peter Dille, Sony Computer Entertainment America Senior Vice President stated that the advertisements have been extremely successful and the consumers truly love it.

I’m an avid cook, a gastronome at heart, and I can surely eat. I love exploring new ingredients and have eaten almost everything under the sun including (sad to say) cheddar cheese crickets, salt ‘n pepper maggots, scorpion lollipops and the list goes on. But throughout my edible adventures, one ingredient that I haven’t tried (as of yet) is salsify.

Salsify is a wildflower/vegetable that has been cultivated since the 16th century for its edible root and, though it has been around for 400+ years, it has gained limited exposure in the United States. I have seen it maybe once or twice at local farmer’s markets, but that’s about it.

Some say the root tastes similar to an oyster, which is why salsify is sometimes referred to as the ‘oyster plant’. According to Wikipedia, “the flowering shoots can be used like asparagus, either raw or cooked, and the flowers can be added to salad, while the sprouted seeds can be used in salads or sandwiches.”

Moral of the story: Get you some salsify and give it a whirl! I know I will be soon.
